A big city with a small-town feel, Portland is home to the country's biggest rose test garden, perched on a hill overlooking downtown.
You'll discover tucked-away gems like The Historic Carousel and Museum and St. Johns Bridge. Get out of town with these interesting Portland side-trips: Portland Women's Forum State Scenic Viewpoint (in Troutdale), Hood River (Horsetail Falls- Columbia River Gorge, Port Marina Park, &more) and Oneonta Gorge (in Cascade Locks). There's much more to do: look for all kinds of wild species at Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area, see the interesting displays at Willamette Heritage Center, trek along Forest Park, and get to know the resident critters at Oregon Zoo.

Kick off your visit on the 1st (Fri): browse the different shops at Kitsap Mall, brush up on your military savvy at U.S. Naval Undersea Museum, and then ponder the design of Harborside Fountain Park. Keep things going the next day: see the interesting displays at USS Turner Joy Museum Ship, learn about all things military at Puget Sound Navy Museum, and then take in the views from Manette Bridge.
