For sixty years until 2003, most of the Isla de Vieques was closed off to the public, with the US Navy using the island's beaches and surrounding waters for drills and testing of new military machinery, such as bombs.
Give yourself a bit of retail therapy at Siddhia Hutchinson Fine Art Gallery and Serenity Point Yoga & Visionary Arts Space. Take a break from the city and head to Sun Bay Beach and Caracas Beach. Founded by the Spanish in 1521, San Juan is the oldest city under U.S.
Take a break from the city and head to El Yunque Rain Forest and Boat Tours & Water Sports. For shopping fun, head to Plaza Las Americas or Coqui International. When in San Juan, make a side trip to see Luquillo Beach in Luquillo, approximately Luquillo away. There's still lots to do: kick back and relax at Condado Beach, appreciate the history behind Holocaust Memorial Monument, view the masterpieces at Walter Otero Contemporary Art, and take in the architecture and atmosphere at Catedral Basilica Menor de San Juan Bautista.
