Best known for its 1692 witch trials, Salem has a number of significant historical sites, a bustling downtown, and many witch-themed attractions.
Museum-lovers will get to explore The House of the Seven Gables and Peabody Essex Museum. Visit Marginal Way Walkway and Mount Agamenticus for their historical value. Get out of town with these interesting Salem side-trips: Fulchino Vineyard (in Hollis), Concord (Sleepy Hollow Cemetery & Louisa May Alcott's Orchard House) and Andres Institute of Art (in Brookline). There's still lots to do: ponder the world of politics at New Hampshire State House, enjoy the sea views from Chandler Hovey Park, steep yourself in history at Pickity Place, and get engrossed in the history at Buckman Tavern.

To find reviews, photos, maps, and other tourist information, use the Salem road trip planner.

In October, daytime highs in Salem are 64°F, while nighttime lows are 45°F. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 26th (Sat) early enough to travel back home.
