One of the fastest-growing metropolitan areas in the country, Tucson is a city on a cultural crossroads, with European, Native American, Mexican, and Asian residents blending and sometimes conflicting with one another.
Kick off your visit on the 27th (Fri): take in the history at Mission San Xavier del Bac and then go for a stroll along the water at Patagonia Lake State Park. On the next day, look and learn at Kitt Peak National Observatory.

Phoenix to Tucson is an approximately 2-hour car ride. You can also take a bus; or do a combination of flight and bus. In July, Tucson is slightly colder than Phoenix - with highs of 97°F and lows of 75°F. Wrap up your sightseeing by early afternoon on the 29th (Sun) to allow time for travel to Colorado Springs.

Traveling by combination of shuttle and flight from Tucson to Colorado Springs takes 5 hours. Alternatively, you can fly; or drive. Traveling from Tucson in July, expect Colorado Springs to be a bit cooler, temps between 86°F and 58°F. Cap off your sightseeing on the 2nd (Thu) early enough to travel to Rapid City.

Explore hidden gems such as Adams House and Spearfish Canyon Scenic Byway. Adams Museum and South Dakota Air and Space Museum will appeal to museum buffs. You'll find plenty of places to visit near Rapid City: Tatanka: Story of the Bison (in Deadwood), Horseback Riding Tours (in Custer) and Sturgis Motorcycle Museum & Hall of Fame (in Sturgis). Albuquerque remains one of the state's secret jewels, as its tourist attractions are often overshadowed by the more popular holiday destination of Santa Fe.
Explore hidden gems such as Valles Caldera National Preserve and Museum of Indian Arts & Culture. Get some cultural insight at Bradbury Science Museum and San Miguel Chapel. Change things up with a short trip to Palace of the Governors in Santa Fe (about 1h 30 min away). There's more to do: kick back and relax at Tingley Beach.
