Big Apple

Writer Pearl Buck once called New York City “a place apart,” and this giant urban center remains unlike any other in the world.
Popular historic sites such as St. Patrick's Cathedral and 9/11 Memorial are in your itinerary. Head to Fifth Avenue and FAO Schwarzfor some retail therapy. There's lots more to do: take in panoramic vistas at Empire State Building, admire the landmark architecture of Rockefeller Center, get great views at Top of the Rock, and take a stroll through Times Square.

Key West — 4 nights

Conch Republic

Located just 140 km (90 mi) from Cuba, Key West is an island only about 6.4 km (4 mi) long and 1.6 km (1 mi) wide.
Key Lime Bike Tours has been added to your itinerary. You'll explore the less-touristy side of things at Fort Zachary Taylor and Key West Lighthouse and Keeper's Quarters Museum. Get some historical perspective at Saint Mary Star of the Sea and Key West Cemetery. Spend the 24th (Sat) exploring nature at Dry Tortugas National Park. There's lots more to do: admire all the interesting features of The Overseas Highway, make a trip to Truman Little White House, see the interesting displays at The Ernest Hemingway Home and Museum, and stop by Blue.

Fly from New York City to Key West in 5 hours. Alternatively, you can drive; or take a bus. Prepare for much warmer weather when traveling from New York City in December: high temperatures in Key West hover around 30°C and lows are around 25°C. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 27th (Tue) to allow time to drive to Marathon.

Heart of the Florida Keys

A tiny city just 16 km (10 mi) long, Marathon is spread across several islands in the middle of the Florida Keys.
Discover out-of-the-way places like The Turtle Hospital and John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park. Step out of the city life by going to Scuba & Snorkeling and Dolphin Research Center. Venture out of the city with trips to Florida Keys Wild Bird Rehabilitation Center (in Tavernier) and Islamorada (Zero Dress Code Boutique & Pasta Pantaleo Signature Gallery). It doesn't end there: stroll through Bahia Honda State Park and kick back and relax at Sombrero Beach.

You can drive from Key West to Marathon in 1.5 hours. Alternatively, you can take a bus. In December, plan for daily highs up to 31°C, and evening lows to 25°C. Finish your sightseeing early on the 31st (Sat) to allow enough time to travel back home.
