Holding a record for the longest pleasure beach in the world, Virginia Beach showcases 35 miles of coastline and maintains a longstanding reputation as a family-friendly vacation destination.
Eschew the tourist crowds and head to Cape Charles Beach and Currituck Beach. Your itinerary includes some good beach time at Virginia Beach and Grommet Island Park. You'll find plenty of places to visit near Virginia Beach: Wright Brothers National Memorial (in Kill Devil Hills), Sanctuary Vineyards (in Jarvisburg) and Corolla (Currituck Banks Reserve, Currituck Beach Lighthouse and Museum, &more). There's much more to do: fly like a bird with a parasailing or paragliding tour, appreciate the history behind Naval Aviation Monument, cast your line with a fishing tour, and see the interesting displays at Virginia Beach Surf & Rescue Museum.

Founded in 1632 as a fortified settlement on the high ground between two rivers, Williamsburg served as a colonial capital of Virginia for over 80 years.
On the 25th (Thu), steep yourself in history at Colonial Williamsburg, then steep yourself in history at George Wythe House, and then explore the striking landscape of Colonial National Historical Park. On the 26th (Fri), you'll have a packed day of sightseeing: contemplate the long history of Jamestown Settlement, contemplate the long history of Historic Jamestowne, then stop by Silver Hand Meadery, and finally take in the architecture and atmosphere at Bruton Parish Episcopal Church.

Getting from Virginia Beach to Williamsburg by car takes about 1.5 hours. Other options: take a bus; or take a bus. In July in Williamsburg, expect temperatures between 91°F during the day and 73°F at night. Finish your sightseeing early on the 26th (Fri) so you can drive to Richmond.

Situated at the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains, Charlottesville is perhaps best known as the home of three of the United States' founding fathers, including Thomas Jefferson.
Start off your visit on the 29th (Mon): steep yourself in history at Monticello.
