The capital of the United States, the District of Columbia contains the lion's share of the country's most treasured monuments, memorials, and public museums.
Visiting Old Rag Mountain Hike and Appalachian Trail will get you outdoors. Head to Eastern Market and Waverly Street Galleryfor plenty of shopping. Explore Washington DC's surroundings by going to Horseshoe Casino (in Baltimore), Loch Raven Reservoir (in Phoenix) and Jug Bay Wetlands Sanctuary (in Lothian). There's much more to do: contemplate the waterfront views at Tidal Basin, hike along Stony Man Mountain Overlook, explore the world behind art at National Gallery of Art, and look for all kinds of wild species at Blue Ridge Center for Environmental Stewardship.

On the 20th (Sun), go for a walk through Central Park and then take a stroll through Times Square. Keep things going the next day: get interesting insight from Tours, then shop like a local with Fifth Avenue, then look for all kinds of wild species at Hallett Nature Sanctuary, and finally grab your bike and head to East River Waterfront Esplanade.
