The City of Lights and Flowers

Home to nearly half of Alaska's population, the port city of Anchorage covers a staggering area of over 4,900 sq km (1,900 sq mi) surrounded by mountains.
Spend the 12th (Sun) behind the viewfinder with an inspiring photography tour. There's much more to do: get to know the resident critters at Alaska Zoo, steep yourself in history at Alaska Native Heritage Center, trek along Kincaid Park, and admire all the interesting features of Seward Hwy.

Florence, Italy to Anchorage is an approximately 17-hour flight. The time zone changes from Central European Standard Time to Alaska Standard Time, which is usually a -10 hour difference. Plan for cooler temperatures traveling from Florence in December, with highs in Anchorage at -4°C and lows at -11°C. Finish your sightseeing early on the 13th (Mon) to allow enough time to fly to Fairbanks.

The Golden Heart City

With its strip malls and fast-food restaurants, Fairbanks appears a bit functional on first glance.
Step out of Fairbanks to go to Chena Hot Springs and see Chena Hot Springs Resort, which is approximately 1h 20 min away. Spend the 14th (Tue) wandering through the wild on a nature and wildlife tour. And it doesn't end there: get a new perspective on nature at University of Alaska Museum of the North, take in the pleasant sights at Wedgewood Wildlife Sanctuary, stroll through Creamer's Field Migratory Waterfowl Refuge, and see the interesting displays at Fountainhead Antique Auto Museum.

When traveling from Anchorage in December, plan for little chillier days in Fairbanks, with highs around -16°C, while nights are colder with lows around -26°C. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 17th (Fri) early enough to travel to Seward.

Alaska Starts Here

For most visitors to this part of the world, the wild part of Alaska starts at Seward, a small port city that takes advantage of the region's natural beauty.
Kick off your visit on the 18th (Sat): explore the striking landscape of Kenai Fjords National Park Visitor Center. Get ready for a full day of sightseeing on the 19th (Sun): get up close to creatures of the deep with a dolphin and whale watching tour and then meet the residents at Alaska SeaLife Center.

You can do a combination of flight and bus from Fairbanks to Seward in 5.5 hours. Other options are to drive; or take a bus. Traveling from Fairbanks in December, things will get much hotter in Seward: highs are around 1°C and lows about -4°C. Finish your sightseeing early on the 19th (Sun) to allow enough time to drive to Homer.

Homer

Homer is a city located in Kenai Peninsula Borough in the U.S. state of Alaska. Fill the 20th (Mon) with the natural beauty at Kachemak Bay State Park. There's lots more to do: grab your bike and head to Homer Spit, learn more about the world around you at Alaska Islands and Ocean Visitor Center, surround yourself with nature on J Bear Tours, and examine the collection at Pratt Museum.

You can drive from Seward to Homer in 4 hours. Another option is to do a combination of bus and ferry. In December, plan for daily highs up to 1°C, and evening lows to -4°C. Wrap up your sightseeing by early afternoon on the 22nd (Wed) to allow enough time to travel back home.
