Juneau is an unusual state capital in many respects.
Step off the beaten path and head to Perseverance National Recreation Trail and Statue of Patsy Ann, the Dog. Visiting Best Damn Charters and Steep Creek will get you outdoors. Next up on the itinerary: look for all kinds of wild species at Treadwell Historic Mine Trail, admire the natural beauty at Jensen-Olson Arboretum, get outside with Herbert Glacier, and take in the architecture and atmosphere at Cathedral of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary.

Home to nearly half of Alaska's population, the port city of Anchorage covers a staggering area of over 4,900 sq km (1,900 sq mi) surrounded by mountains.
Eschew the tourist crowds and head to Byron Glacier Trail and Kayaking & Canoeing. Get in touch with nature at Turnagain Arm and Beluga Point. The adventure continues: take in nature's colorful creations at Alaska Botanical Garden, trek along Virgin Creek Falls Trail, go deep underground at Crow Creek Mine, and sample the tasty concoctions at Girdwood Brewing Company.

For most visitors to this part of the world, the wild part of Alaska starts at Seward, a small port city that takes advantage of the region's natural beauty.
On the 12th (Wed), explore the striking landscape at Holgate Glacier, trek along Harding Ice Field Trail, and then take your sightseeing to a higher altitude at Mt. Marathon. Get ready for a full day of sightseeing on the 13th (Thu): take in the architecture and atmosphere at Resurrection Lutheran Church, then see the world from above with a helicopter tour, then head off the coast to Fox Island, and finally take in the dramatic natural features at Bear Glacier.
