Sitka

The City and Borough of Sitka, formerly Novo-Arkhangelsk, or New Archangel under Russian rule, is a unified city-borough located on Baranof Island and the southern half of Chichagof Island in the Alexander Archipelago of the Pacific Ocean (part of the Alaska Panhandle), in the U.S. Get in touch with nature at Alaska Raptor Center and Starrigavan Recreation Area. You'll explore the less-touristy side of things at Fishing Charters & Tours and Sheldon Jackson Museum. There's lots more to do: see majestic marine mammals with a dolphin and whale watching tour, contemplate the long history of Russian Bishop's House, take in the architecture and atmosphere at Sitka Lutheran Church, and view the masterpieces at Island Artists Gallery.

Washington DC to Sitka is an approximately 12.5-hour flight. The time zone changes from Eastern Standard Time (EST) to Alaska Standard Time (AKST), which is usually a -4 hour difference. When traveling from Washington DC in July, plan for much colder days and a bit cooler nights in Sitka: temperatures range from 62°F by day to 54°F at night. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 31st (Wed) to allow time to fly to Skagway.

Skagway

The Municipality and Borough of Skagway is a first-class borough in Alaska on the Alaska Panhandle. Step off the beaten path and head to Lower Reid Falls and Chilkoot River. Visiting Lower Dewey Lake Hiking Trail and Nature & Wildlife Tours will get you outdoors. And it doesn't end there: stroll the grounds of Gold Rush Cemetery, get answers to all your questions at Klondike Gold Rush National Historical Park Visitor Center, and look for gifts at Skagway Alaska Downtown.

Fly from Sitka to Skagway in 4.5 hours. Alternatively, you can ride a ferry. Expect a daytime high around 65°F in July, and nighttime lows around 54°F. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 3rd (Sat) early enough to travel to Juneau.

Juneau is an unusual state capital in many respects.
Eschew the tourist crowds and head to Alaskan Brewery and Bottling Company and Amalga Distillery. Get outdoors at Dolphin & Whale Watching and Mendenhall Glacier Visitor Center. The adventure continues: whizz through the canopy at some of the top local zipline courses and adventure parks, get outside with Ward Air, stroll through Mount Roberts Trail, and explore the striking landscape at Mendenhall Glacier.

You can fly from Skagway to Juneau in 2.5 hours. Alternatively, you can ride a ferry. In August in Juneau, expect temperatures between 64°F during the day and 51°F at night. Finish your sightseeing early on the 6th (Tue) to allow enough time to travel to Homer.

Homer

Homer is a city located in Kenai Peninsula Borough in the U.S. Get outdoors at Homer Spit and Kayaking & Canoeing. Step off the beaten path and head to Center for Alaskan Coastal Studies and Norman Lowell Gallery. When in Homer, make a side trip to see Fishing Charters & Tours in Ninilchik, approximately Ninilchik away. There's much more to do: look for all kinds of wild species at Wildlife Areas, examine the collection at Pratt Museum, indulge your thirst for a good beer at Grace Ridge Brewery, and explore the world behind art at Bunnell Street Arts Center.
