Sitka

The City and Borough of Sitka, formerly Novo-Arkhangelsk, or New Archangel under Russian rule, is a unified city-borough located on Baranof Island and the southern half of Chichagof Island in the Alexander Archipelago of the Pacific Ocean (part of the Alaska Panhandle), in the U.S. state of Alaska. Get in touch with nature at Alaska Raptor Center and Dolphin & Whale Watching. You'll explore the less-touristy side of things at Fishing Charters & Tours and Sheldon Jackson Museum. There's lots more to do: identify plant and animal life at Starrigavan Recreation Area, take in the architecture and atmosphere at Sitka Lutheran Church, view the masterpieces at Island Artists Gallery, and admire the landmark architecture of Russian Bishop's House.

Washington DC to Sitka is an approximately 12.5-hour flight. The time zone changes from Eastern Standard Time (EST) to Alaska Standard Time (AKST), which is usually a -4 hour difference. Traveling from Washington DC in July, you will find days in Sitka are cooler (62°F), and nights are a bit cooler (54°F). Cap off your sightseeing on the 31st (Wed) early enough to catch the flight to Skagway.

Skagway

The Municipality and Borough of Skagway is a first-class borough in Alaska on the Alaska Panhandle. Step off the beaten path and head to Lower Reid Falls and Lower Dewey Lake Hiking Trail. Visiting Chilkoot River and Nature & Wildlife Tours will get you outdoors. And it doesn't end there: stroll the grounds of Gold Rush Cemetery, get answers to all your questions at Klondike Gold Rush National Historical Park Visitor Center, and look for gifts at Skagway Alaska Downtown.

Fly from Sitka to Skagway in 4.5 hours. Alternatively, you can ride a ferry. Expect a daytime high around 65°F in July, and nighttime lows around 54°F. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 3rd (Sat) early enough to travel to Juneau.

Juneau is an unusual state capital in many respects.
Eschew the tourist crowds and head to Alaskan Brewery and Bottling Company and Mount Roberts Trail. Get outdoors at Dolphin & Whale Watching and Mendenhall Glacier Visitor Center. And it doesn't end there: whizz through the canopy at some of the top local zipline courses and adventure parks, head outdoors with Ward Air, brush up on your knowledge of spirits at Amalga Distillery, and explore the striking landscape at Mendenhall Glacier.

Getting from Skagway to Juneau by flight takes about 2.5 hours. Other options: ride a ferry. In August, plan for daily highs up to 64°F, and evening lows to 51°F. Finish your sightseeing early on the 6th (Tue) so you can travel to Homer.

Homer

Homer is a city located in Kenai Peninsula Borough in the U.S. state of Alaska. Get outdoors at Homer Spit and Kayaking & Canoeing. Step off the beaten path and head to Center for Alaskan Coastal Studies and Grace Ridge Brewery. When in Homer, make a side trip to see Fishing Charters & Tours in Ninilchik, approximately Ninilchik away. There's much more to do: identify plant and animal life at Wildlife Areas, examine the collection at Pratt Museum, explore the world behind art at Bunnell Street Arts Center, and take in the exciting artwork at Norman Lowell Gallery.
