The City of Lights and Flowers

Home to nearly half of Alaska's population, the port city of Anchorage covers a staggering area of over 4,900 sq km (1,900 sq mi) surrounded by mountains.
Kids will enjoy Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center and Rail Tours. You'll find plenty of places to visit near Anchorage: Palmer (Knik Glacier Tours, Pioneer Falls, &more) and Whittier (Boat Tours & Water Sports & Portage Pass Trail). Make the 7th (Wed) an awe-inspiring day at Chugach State Park. There's still lots to do: grab your bike and head to Tony Knowles Coastal Trail, make a trip to Seward Hwy, identify plant and animal life at Potter Marsh Bird Sanctuary, and hike along Kincaid Park.

In July, daily temperatures in Anchorage can reach 69°F, while at night they dip to 55°F.
