Phoenix is the capital and most populous city of the U.S. Start off your visit on the 2nd (Wed): explore by horseback at KOLI Equestrian Center. Here are some ideas for day two: take in nature's colorful creations at Desert Botanical Garden, then examine the collection at Musical Instrument Museum, and then see the interesting displays at Buddy Stubbs Harley-Davidson.

Newark to Phoenix is an approximately 7.5-hour flight. You can also do a combination of train and flight; or drive. The time zone difference moving from Eastern Standard Time (EST) to Mountain Standard Time (MST) is minus 2 hours. When traveling from Newark in October, plan for much warmer days and somewhat warmer nights in Phoenix: temperatures range from 91°F by day to 67°F at night. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 3rd (Thu) early enough to drive to Sedona.

Change things up with these side-trips from Sedona: Clarkdale (Clarkdale National Historic District & Townsite & Arizona Copper Art Museum). Traveling by car from Phoenix to Sedona takes 2.5 hours. Alternatively, you can do a combination of flight and taxi; or take a shuttle. Traveling from Phoenix in October, expect Sedona to be a bit cooler, temps between 77°F and 55°F. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 6th (Sun) to allow time to drive to Williams.

A tiny town with big tourist appeal, Williams lies on one of the first highways ever built in America, the iconic "Route 66." The town boasts many inns, motels, restaurants, and shops, although its most important feature is serving as the southern terminus of a scenic railway leading to the area's most famous tourist attraction, the World Heritage-listed Grand Canyon.
You'll find plenty of places to visit near Williams: Grand Canyon National Park (South Kaibab Trail, Grand Canyon South Rim, & more) and Tusayan General Store (in Tusayan).

You can drive from Sedona to Williams in 1.5 hours. Another option is to take a bus. Expect a bit cooler temperatures when traveling from Sedona in October; daily highs in Williams reach 66°F and lows reach 36°F. Finish your sightseeing early on the 10th (Thu) to allow enough time to travel to Marble Canyon.
