Although Badlands National Park's name might not be the most inviting, its landscape of pinnacles, eroded buttes, spires, and an expansive, pristine mixed-grass prairie remain enticing.
Step out of Badlands National Park with an excursion to South Dakota's Original 1880 Town in Murdo--about 1h 20 min away. Spend the 29th (Sun) exploring nature at Badlands National Park. There's much more to do: take a memorable drive along Loop Road, get great views at Pinnacles Overlook, identify plant and animal life at Roberts Prairie Dog Town, and take in the dramatic natural features at Yellow Mounds Overlook.

The glaciers from which Glacier National Park takes its name mostly dissipated eons ago, but they left behind a scoured landscape of high and steep mountain peaks, sparkling lakes, lush alpine meadows, and thick forests.
On the 4th (Sat), hike the day away at Highline Trail. There's lots more to do: explore and take pictures at Going-to-the-Sun Road, explore the activities along Lake McDonald, take in the dramatic natural features at Grinnell Glacier, and appreciate the views at Logan Pass.
