Key West — 1 night

Conch Republic

Located just 140 km (90 mi) from Cuba, Key West is an island only about 6.4 km (4 mi) long and 1.6 km (1 mi) wide.
Kick off your visit on the 1st (Fri): paddle through the water with a kayaking and canoeing tour, take in the exciting artwork at 7 Artists & Friends Key West, brush up on your knowledge of spirits at Papa’s Pilar Rum Distillery, Hemingway Rum Company, then indulge in some personalized pampering at some of the best spas, and finally enjoy the sand and surf at Higgs Beach. On the next day, get engrossed in the history at Key West Lighthouse and Keeper's Quarters Museum, get engrossed in the history at U.S. Coast Guard Cutter Ingham Maritime Museum, then see the interesting displays at Mel Fisher Maritime Heritage Museum, and finally take in the architecture and atmosphere at St. Paul's Episcopal Church.

Marathon — 2 nights

Heart of the Florida Keys

A tiny city just 16 km (10 mi) long, Marathon is spread across several islands in the middle of the Florida Keys.
Start off your visit on the 2nd (Sat): relax and rejuvenate at some of the top local wellness centers. On your second day here, cast your line with a fishing tour, kick back and relax at Sunset Park Beach, then look for gifts at The Tackle Box, then identify plant and animal life at Sombrero Reef, and finally take in the views from Old Seven Mile Bridge.

Traveling by car from Key West to Marathon takes 1.5 hours. Alternatively, you can take a bus. In July, plan for daily highs up to 92°F, and evening lows to 81°F. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 4th (Mon) to allow time to drive to Key Largo.
