Although urban sprawl remains synonymous with Houston, most of the city's tourist attractions lie within the relatively small downtown area, surrounded by diverse neighborhoods housing the nation's biggest African-American, Asian-American, and Latino communities.
George Bush Presidential Library and Museum and Blue Bell Creameries are good opportunities to explore the local culture. Visit Surfside Beach and Sylvan Beach Park for some beach relaxation. Change things up with these side-trips from Houston: Messina Hof Winery (in Bryan), Brazosport Museum of Natural Science (in Clute) and Bonfire Memorial (in College Station). There's still lots to do: see the interesting displays at Space Center Houston, engage your brain at The Houston Museum of Natural Science, have fun and explore at Children's Museum of Houston, and play a few rounds at Hermann Park.
