The largest city on the Mississippi River, Memphis bills itself as both the "Birthplace of Rock" and "Home of the Blues." With such a rich musical heritage, it shouldn't come as a surprise that Elvis Presley chose to live in Memphis during his later years.
Stax Museum of American Soul Music and The Delta Blues Museum are good opportunities to explore the local culture. Eschew the tourist crowds and head to Southland Park Gaming and Racing and Helena Confederate Cemetery. Take a break from Memphis with a short trip to Cat Head Delta Blues & Folk Art in Clarksdale, about 1h 55 min away. Next up on the itinerary: get engrossed in the history at Memphis Rock 'n' Soul Museum, stroll the grounds of Elmwood Cemetery, get a new perspective on nature at Ducks Unlimited Waterfowling Heritage Center, and admire nature's wide array of creatures at Memphis Zoo.
