Garryowen — 1 night

Garryowen is a private town in Big Horn County, Montana, United States. Kick off your visit on the 1st (Mon): admire the majestic nature at Rosebud Battlefield State Park. On the 2nd (Tue), you'll have a packed day of sightseeing: witness the site of a historic battle at Little Bighorn Battlefield, take in the history at Custer Battlefield Trading Company, and then witness the site of a historic battle at Custer Battlefield Museum.

Big Sky — 2 nights

Big Sky is a census-designated place (CDP) in Gallatin and Madison counties in southwestern Montana. Kick off your visit on the 3rd (Wed): get a dose of the wild on a nature and wildlife tour, then take in the awesome beauty at Lone Peak, then trek along Ousel Falls Trail, and finally stroll the grounds of The Soldiers Chapel. Get ready for a full day of sightseeing on the next day: hike along Beehive Basin Trail, then fly down the slopes at Big Sky Resort, then trot along with a tour on horseback, and finally cast your line with a fishing tour.

You can drive from Garryowen to Big Sky in 4 hours. Another option is to drive. Traveling from Garryowen in May, things will get much hotter in Big Sky: highs are around 16°C and lows about 0°C. Finish your sightseeing early on the 4th (Thu) so you can drive to Helena.

Helena is the capital city of the U.S. state of Montana and the county seat of Lewis and Clark County. Start off your visit on the 5th (Fri): take in the awesome beauty at Mount Helena, then ponder the world of politics at Montana State Capitol, and then explore the wealth of natural beauty at Gates of the Mountains. Missoula — 3 nights

Missoula is a city in the U.S. state of Montana and is the county seat of Missoula County. Take a break from the city and head to Bison Range and River Rafting & Tubing. Get some historical perspective at Grant-Kohrs Ranch and Garden of One Thousand Buddhas. Explore Missoula's surroundings by going to St. Ignatius Mission (in Saint Ignatius), The Sweet Palace (in Philipsburg) and Old Montana Prison Complex (in Deer Lodge). There's more to do: look for all kinds of wild species at Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation and examine the collection at Aerial Fire Depot and Smokejumper Center.

Drive from Helena to Missoula in 2 hours. Alternatively, you can drive; or take a bus. In May, daytime highs in Missoula are 23°C, while nighttime lows are 5°C. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 9th (Tue) early enough to drive to Glacier National Park.

Glacier National Park — 5 nights

Crown of the Continent

The glaciers from which Glacier National Park takes its name mostly dissipated eons ago, but they left behind a scoured landscape of high and steep mountain peaks, sparkling lakes, lush alpine meadows, and thick forests.
Step out of the city life by going to Two Medicine Lake and St. Mary Lake. Step off the beaten path and head to Swiftcurrent Falls and Virginia Falls. Change things up with a short trip to Aster Falls in East Glacier Park (about 54 minutes away). The adventure continues: take in the dramatic scenery at Running Eagle Falls, take some stellar pictures from Jackson Glacier Overlook, admire the verdant scenery at Logan Pass, and explore the activities along Fishercap Lake.
