Many residents have shunned fast-paced city living for Taos's laid-back vibe and blend of Spanish, Native American, and Anglo cultures.
Take a break from the city and head to Wild Rivers Recreation Area and Horseback Riding Tours. Explore hidden gems such as Fort Union National Monument and Philmont Scout Ranch. Take a break from Taos with a short trip to Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Angel Fire, about 38 minutes away. Albuquerque remains one of the state's secret jewels, as its tourist attractions are often overshadowed by the more popular holiday destination of Santa Fe.
Discover out-of-the-way places like San Felipe de Neri Church and Salinas Pueblo Missions National Monument. Visit Albuquerque Old Town and Bandelier National Monument for their historical value. When in Albuquerque, make a side trip to see Sky City Cultural Center & Haak'u Museum in Pueblo of Acoma, approximately 1h 30 min away. There's more to do: get a new perspective on nature at New Mexico Museum of Natural History and Science and get curious at Explora Science Center and Children's Museum of Albuquerque.
