The Big Easy

Known for its Creole cuisine, rich musical tradition, and nearby swamps and plantations, New Orleans is one of the nation's oldest cities.
Get out of town with these interesting New Orleans side-trips: Louisiana's Old State Capitol (in Baton Rouge), Nottoway Plantation (in White Castle) and Oak Alley Plantation (in Vacherie). There's lots more to do: brush up on your military savvy at The National WWII Museum, appreciate the extensive heritage of Jackson Square, stop by Frenchmen Street, and walk around New Orleans City Park.

For more things to do, other places to visit, traveler tips, and more tourist information, you can read our New Orleans trip builder tool.

If you are flying in from France, the closest major aiports are Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport, Gulfport Biloxi International Airport and Trent Lott International Airport. In August, daytime highs in New Orleans are 32°C, while nighttime lows are 32°C. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 29th (Sat) early enough to travel back home.
