The center of Cherokee culture in the eastern part of the country, the town named after this Native American tribe serves as a base camp for hiking in the Great Smoky Mountains.
Kick off your visit on the 12th (Sun): view the masterpieces at Elizabeth Ellison Gallery and then try to win big at Casino at Harrah’s Cherokee. On the next day, see the interesting displays at Museum of the Cherokee Indian, admire the sheer force of Dry Falls, and then take your sightseeing to a higher altitude at Whiteside Mountain.

Newark to Cherokee is an approximately 3.5-hour combination of flight and car. You can also do a combination of train, flight, and car; or drive. Expect somewhat warmer weather when traveling from Newark in January: highs in Cherokee hover around 48°F, while lows dip to 25°F.
