America's Hometown

Rightly calling itself "America's Hometown," Plymouth holds a prominent place in the nation's history and culture as the site of the first Puritan colony.
Attractions like Plimoth Patuxet and Mayflower II make great kid-friendly stops. Change things up with these side-trips from Plymouth: Eastham (Salt Pond Visitor Center, Coast Guard Beach, &more), Provincetown (Provincetown Town Hall, Commercial Street, &more) and Marconi Beach (in Wellfleet). There's lots more to do: steep yourself in history at Plymouth Rock, kick back and relax at Nauset Beach, tour the pleasant surroundings at Shining Sea Bikeway, and stroll around Nelson Memorial Park.

To see reviews, photos, maps, and more tourist information, you can read our Plymouth road trip planning website.

Sanford to Plymouth is an approximately 8-hour flight. You can also drive; or do a combination of taxi and bus. Prepare for slightly colder weather when traveling from Sanford in August: high temperatures in Plymouth hover around 81°F and lows are around 61°F. On the 14th (Fri), you'll have the morning to explore before heading back home.
