The quietest of the three main entrances to the World Heritage-listed national park encompassing part of the Great Smoky Mountains, Townsend is a low-key town.
Get outdoors at Cades Cove and The Sinks. Popular historic sites such as Walker Sisters' Cabin and Little Greenbrier School are in your itinerary. Explore Townsend's surroundings by going to Great Smoky Mountains National Park (Chimney Tops Trail & Chimneys Picnic Area). The adventure continues: admire all the interesting features of Little River Road, admire the sheer force of Abrams Falls Trail, stroll around Metcalf Bottoms Picnic Area, and cruise along Rich Mountain Road.

Start off your visit on the 18th (Thu): take in the history at Carnton, take in the history at Carter House, then contemplate the long history of Lotz House Museum, and finally stroll the grounds of McGavock Confederate Cemetery.
