Generally considered to be the oldest town established by European Americans in the Black Hills, Custer began as a mining town.
Start off your visit on the 27th (Sat): take in the dramatic natural features at Needles Eye Tunnel. On your second day here, learn more about the world around you at Mammoth Site of Hot Springs, take a memorable drive along Wildlife Loop Road, and then contemplate the waterfront views at Sylvan Lake.
