Deepen your sense of the past at sights like Arlington National Cemetery and The Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. Explore Arlington's surroundings by going to The Aldie Peddler (in Aldie), Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center (in Chantilly) and National Museum of the Marine Corps (in Triangle). The adventure continues: take in the architecture and atmosphere at Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church and stroll the grounds of Quantico National Cemetery.

Situated at the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains, Charlottesville is perhaps best known as the home of three of the United States' founding fathers, including Thomas Jefferson.
Monticello and Ellwood Manor will appeal to history buffs. Give yourself a bit of retail therapy at Saunders Brothers and Moving Meadows Farm. Change things up with these side-trips from Charlottesville: Magnolia Vineyards (in Amissville), Copper Fox Distillery (in Sperryville) and Brandy Station Foundation (in Brandy Station). The adventure continues: sample the tasty concoctions at Loose Shoe Brewing Company, contemplate in the serene atmosphere at St. Thomas Parish Church, do a tasting at Brix and Columns Vineyards, and pause for some serene contemplation at Trinity Episcopal Church.

The capital city of Virginia, Richmond has diverse architecture, a large collection of monuments, and world-class museums that reveal the city's important role in American history.
Head to Good Earth Peanut Company and Short Pump Mallfor some retail therapy. Visit Fan District and Cold Harbor National Cemetery for their historical value. Norfolk formed around a natural harbor that’s home to the world’s largest naval base, which helped cement the city as a keystone for strategic military planning and government.
St. Luke's Historic Church & Museum and Bassett Hall will appeal to history buffs. Get out of town with these interesting Norfolk side-trips: Williamsburg (Saint Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church, George Wythe House, & more), The Peanut Patch (in Courtland) and Yorktown (Grace Episcopal Church & Moore House). There's still lots to do: enjoy the sand and surf at Cape Charles Beach, enjoy the sea views from Old Point Comfort Lighthouse, and steep yourself in history at Suffolk Seaboard Station Railroad Museum.
