The town of Jackson serves as a base for trips to the nearby Grand Teton National Park, Yellowstone National Park, National Elk Refuge, and several ski resorts.

Satisfy your inner culture vulture at Downtown Rapid City and Chapel In the Hills. Get out of town with these interesting Rapid City side-trips: Crazy Horse Memorial (in Crazy Horse), Custer State Park (in Custer) and Mount Moriah Cemetery (in Deadwood). Fly from Jackson to Rapid City in 5.5 hours. Alternatively, you can drive; or do a combination of shuttle and bus. Prepare for a bit warmer weather when traveling from Jackson in August: high temperatures in Rapid City hover around 87°F and lows are around 57°F. Cap off your sightseeing on the 20th (Sun) early enough to travel back home.
