Home to nearly half of Alaska's population, the port city of Anchorage covers a staggering area of over 4,900 sq km (1,900 sq mi) surrounded by mountains.
Bring the kids along to Anchorage Museum at Rasmuson Center and Alaska Zoo. There's still lots to do: look for all kinds of wild species at Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center, explore the striking landscape at Beluga Point, gain insight at Alaska Native Heritage Center, and examine the collection at Alaska Jewish Museum.

Columbus to Anchorage is an approximately 10.5-hour combination of flight and car. You can also do a combination of bus, taxi, flight, and car; or drive. Traveling from Columbus to Anchorage, you'll gain 4 hours due to the time zone difference. In July, Anchorage is slightly colder than Columbus - with highs of 69°F and lows of 55°F. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 21st (Tue) to allow time to drive to Seward.

Seward

For most visitors to this part of the world, the wild part of Alaska starts at Seward, a small port city that takes advantage of the region's natural beauty.
Start off your visit on the 22nd (Wed): explore the striking landscape at Exit Glacier, get up close to creatures of the deep with a dolphin and whale watching tour, and then see the world from above with a helicopter tour. Keep things going the next day: paddle through the water with a kayaking and canoeing tour and then meet the residents at Alaska SeaLife Center.

Traveling by car from Anchorage to Seward takes 2.5 hours. Alternatively, you can do a combination of car and bus; or take a train. Traveling from Anchorage in July, expect nights in Seward to be about the same, around 52°F, while days are a bit cooler, around 64°F. Cap off your sightseeing on the 23rd (Thu) early enough to travel to Homer.

Homer is a city located in Kenai Peninsula Borough in the U.S. Start off your visit on the 24th (Fri): get answers to all your questions at Alaska Islands and Ocean Visitor Center, enjoy the sand and surf at Homer Spit, and then hit the best photo ops around with an inspiring photography tour. The City and Borough of Sitka, formerly Novo-Arkhangelsk, or New Archangel under Russian rule, is a unified city-borough located on Baranof Island and the southern half of Chichagof Island in the Alexander Archipelago of the Pacific Ocean (part of the Alaska Panhandle), in the U.S. Kick off your visit on the 26th (Sun): look for all kinds of wild species at Alaska Raptor Center, get to know the fascinating history of Sitka National Historic Park/Totem Park, and then identify plant and animal life at Wildlife Areas.
