Generally considered to be the oldest town established by European Americans in the Black Hills, Custer began as a mining town.
Start off your visit on the 22nd (Sat): contemplate the waterfront views at Sylvan Lake and then take in the dramatic natural features at Needles Eye Tunnel. Keep things going the next day: take a memorable drive along Wildlife Loop Road, then cruise along Iron Mountain Road, then explore the wealth of natural beauty at Mount Rushmore National Memorial, and finally go for a walk through Breezy Point Picnic Area.
