15 days in Charleston, St. Augustine & Savannah Itinerary

Many visitors describe their Charleston holiday as a warm embrace by an old, dear friend--who lived about 200 years ago.

Get outdoors at Botany Bay Plantation Heritage Preserve and Wildlife Management Area and Charleston Tea Plantation. Your inner history buff will appreciate Nathaniel Russell House and Aiken-Rhett House. When in Charleston, make a side trip to see Edisto Beach State Park in Edisto Island, approximately 1h 10 min away. There's much more to do: take in the dramatic natural features at Angel Oak Tree, admire the landmark architecture of Drayton Hall, get up close to creatures of the deep with a dolphin and whale watching tour, and contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Kahal Kadosh Beth Elohim.

New York City to Charleston is an approximately 5-hour flight. You can also do a combination of bus and flight; or drive. Prepare for a bit warmer weather when traveling from New York City in June: high temperatures in Charleston hover around 87°F and lows are around 73°F. Finish up your sightseeing early on the 2nd (Mon) so you can go by car to St. Augustine.

SAINT AUGUSTINE | PONTE VEDRA on Florida's Historic Coast The Nation's oldest city (est. Deepen your sense of the past at sights like Cathedral Basilica of St. Augustine and Mission of Nombre de Dios. Step out of the city life by going to Ormond Beach and Vilano Beach. Go for a jaunt from St. Augustine to Jacksonville Beach to see Jacksonville Beach about 50 minutes away. There's lots more to do: contemplate the long history of Colonial Quarter, admire the landmark architecture of Old Jail, do a tasting at San Sebastian Winery, and examine the collection at Ripley's Believe It Or Not.

You can drive from Charleston to St. Augustine in 5 hours. Other options are to fly; or do a combination of car, train, and bus. In July, plan for daily highs up to 90°F, and evening lows to 75°F. Finish your sightseeing early on the 5th (Thu) to allow enough time to drive to Savannah.

Step out of the city life by going to Parasailing & Paragliding and Waterskiing & Jetskiing. Juliette Gordon Low's Birthplace and Colonial Park Cemetery are good opportunities to explore the local culture. You'll find plenty of places to visit near Savannah: Hilton Head (Pinckney Island National Wildlife Refuge, Harbour Town Lighthouse, & more). And it doesn't end there: get up close to creatures of the deep with a dolphin and whale watching tour, get engrossed in the history at Davenport House Museum, identify plant and animal life at Oatland Island Wildlife Center, and contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Mickve Israel Temple.

In July, daily temperatures in Savannah can reach 91°F, while at night they dip to 74°F. Cap off your sightseeing on the 11th (Wed) early enough to travel back home.
