As the closest town to a national park known for its archeological dwellings, Cortez sits along ancient trails that native Puebloan tribes have used for millennia.
Eschew the tourist crowds and head to Anasazi Heritage Center [museum] & Canyons of the Ancients National Monument and Hovenweep National Monument. Get some cultural insight at Cortez Cultural Center and Rio Grande Southern Railroad Museum.. Explore Cortez's surroundings by going to Mesa Verde National Park (Balcony House & Spruce Tree House).

The time zone changes from Eastern Standard Time (EST) to Mountain Standard Time (MST), which is usually a -2 hour difference.
