In many ways much more Asian than American, Honolulu is Hawaii's largest city and its center of government, transportation, commerce, and tourism.
Escape the urban bustle at Waikiki Beach and Kailua Beach Park. Do some cultural sightseeing at USS Arizona Memorial and National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific. You'll find plenty of places to visit near Honolulu: Kailua (Lanikai Beach & Muumuu Heaven), Sunset Beach Park (in Haleiwa) and Polynesian Cultural Center (in Laie). And it doesn't end there: go for a walk through Diamond Head State Monument, see the interesting displays at USS Bowfin Submarine Museum & Park, look for all kinds of wild species at Hanauma Bay Nature Preserve, and buy something for everyone on your list at Ala Moana Center.

Newark to Honolulu is an approximately 13.5-hour flight. You'll gain 5 hours traveling from Newark to Honolulu due to the time zone difference. Plan for somewhat warmer temperatures traveling from Newark in September, with highs in Honolulu at 88°F and lows at 76°F. Finish your sightseeing early on the 6th (Fri) so you can travel to Volcano.

Volcano, Island of Hawaii

Those who named Volcano opted for simplicity in choosing a title, taking the nearby fire-spewing Kilauea as a source of inspiration.
Give yourself a bit of retail therapy at Volcano Art Center and Hilo Farmers Market. Get a sense of the local culture at Kalapana and Banyan Gallery. Explore Volcano's surroundings by going to Akaka Falls State Park (in Hilo) and Holei Sea Arch (in Hawaii Volcanoes National Park). And it doesn't end there: trek along Kilauea Iki Trailhead, take a memorable drive along Devastation Trail, stroll through Kipuka Puaulu (Bird Park) Trail, and examine the collection at Jagger Museum.
