Lihue, Kauai

Lihue or Līhue is an unincorporated census-designated place (CDP) and the county seat of Kauai County, Hawaii. Visit Shipwreck Beach and Hanalei Beach for some beach relaxation. You'll explore the less-touristy side of things at Wailua Falls and Maha'ulepu Heritage Trail. Step out of Lihue with an excursion to Na Pali Coast State Park in Wainiha--about 1h 15 min away. There's still lots to do: see some colorful creatures with a scuba or snorkeling tour, get interesting insight from Koloa Zipline, take in the dramatic scenery at Opaekaa Falls, and tour the pleasant surroundings at Anini Beach.

To find maps, more things to do, traveler tips, and other tourist information, read Lihue trip planning app.

Durango to Lihue is an approximately 11.5-hour flight. The time zone changes from Mountain Standard Time to Hawaii-Aleutian Standard Time, which is usually a -3 hour difference. Expect a bit warmer weather when traveling from Durango in April: highs in Lihue hover around 80°F, while lows dip to 70°F. Cap off your sightseeing on the 7th (Wed) early enough to travel to Honolulu.

Explore the numerous day-trip ideas around Honolulu: Waimea Valley (in Haleiwa) and Lanikai Beach (in Kailua). Heart of the Kona Coast

Thanks to its favorable location near a mountain range blocking the northeasterly trade winds, Kailua-Kona gets little rainfall, allowing adventure seekers and nature lovers a chance to enjoy over 300 days of sunshine each year.

Keep things going the next day: identify plant and animal life at Kanaloa Octopus Farm, stroll through Manini'owali Beach (Kua Bay), then take a tour by water with Boat Tours & Water Sports, and finally kick your exploration up a notch at Hawaii Forest and Trail.
