In many ways much more Asian than American, Honolulu is Hawaii's largest city and its center of government, transportation, commerce, and tourism.
Relax by the water at Waikiki Beach and Kailua Beach Park. Step out of the city life by going to Diamond Head State Monument and Lanikai Beach. Explore Honolulu's surroundings by going to Polynesian Cultural Center (in Laie) and Pu’u O Mahuka Heiau State Monument (in Pupukea). There's still lots to do: look for all kinds of wild species at Hanauma Bay Nature Preserve, pause for some photo ops at King Kamehameha Statue, stroll the grounds of USS Arizona Memorial, and admire the sheer force of Manoa Falls.

For where to stay, traveler tips, maps, and tourist information, refer to the Honolulu holiday planner.

Getting from Lihue to Honolulu by flight takes about 2.5 hours. October in Honolulu sees daily highs of 87°F and lows of 74°F at night. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 11th (Fri) early enough to travel to Lahaina.
