In many ways much more Asian than American, Honolulu is Hawaii's largest city and its center of government, transportation, commerce, and tourism.
Explore Honolulu's surroundings by going to Sea Life Park Hawaii (in Waimanalo) and Kailua (Kailua Beach Park & Lanikai Beach). And it doesn't end there: go for a walk through Diamond Head State Monument, enjoy the sand and surf at Waikiki Beach, steep yourself in history at Iolani Palace, and work some fitness into your day at Ala Moana Beach Park.

Noted for its low-key beaches, Kapaa is a small town with a high concentration of tourist-oriented hotels, shops, bars, and restaurants.
Explore Kapaa's surroundings by going to Na Pali Coast State Park (in Wainiha), Waimea Canyon State Park (in Waimea) and Na Pali Makai (in Kekaha). The adventure continues: kick back and relax at Poipu Beach Park, trek along Kalalau Trail, cruise along Hanalei Valley Lookout, and stroll through Hanalei Beach.

Stretching over 9.7 km (6 mi) of pristine south Maui coastline, Kihei is the island's driest and sunniest region, making it a perfect location for water activities and beach leisure.

There's still lots to do: observe the fascinating underwater world at Maui Ocean Center, relax in the rural setting at Surfing Goat Dairy, admire the majestic nature at Iao Valley, and whizz through the canopy at Maui Zipline Company.

Thanks to its favorable location near a mountain range blocking the northeasterly trade winds, Kailua-Kona gets little rainfall, allowing adventure seekers and nature lovers a chance to enjoy over 300 days of sunshine each year.
Start off your visit on the 14th (Tue): explore the striking landscape of Pu'uhonua O Honaunau National Historical Park, then look for all kinds of wild species at Adventures in Paradise Kayak & Snorkel, and then fulfill a lifelong dream with Big Island Divers. Here are some ideas for day two: kick back and relax at Hapuna Beach State Recreation Area, see some colorful creatures with Kona Diving Company, and then take in the waterfront at Kailua Pier.

To see maps, reviews, more things to do, and other tourist information, you can read our Kailua-Kona trip planner .

Getting from Kihei to Kailua-Kona by combination of bus and flight takes about 5 hours. Other options: do a combination of car and flight. July in Kailua-Kona sees daily highs of 35°C and lows of 28°C at night. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 15th (Wed) to allow time to travel back home.
