Maine's biggest and perhaps most vibrant city, Portland was established as a fishing village in 1633 and grew to become New England's largest port.
Change things up with these side-trips from Portland: Nubble Lighthouse (in York), St. Ann's Episcopal Church (in Kennebunkport) and Ogunquit (Marginal Way Walkway, Perkins Cove, &more). There's still lots to do: take a stroll through Old Port, indulge your thirst for a good beer at Allagash Brewing Company, admire the masterpieces at Portland Museum of Art, and take advantage of the amenities at Old Orchard Beach.

Acadia National Park is known for nature, trails, and scenic drive.
