The Forest City

Maine's biggest and perhaps most vibrant city, Portland was established as a fishing village in 1633 and grew to become New England's largest port.
Your inner history buff will appreciate Marginal Way Walkway and Portland Head Light. Step out of the city life by going to Ogunquit Beach and Wells Beach. Change things up with these side-trips from Portland: Popham Beach State Park (in Phippsburg), Long Sands Beach (in York Beach) and Ogunquit (Footbridge Beach & Perkins Cove).
