Custer

Generally considered to be the oldest town established by European Americans in the Black Hills, Custer began as a mining town.
Step off the beaten path and head to Loop Road and Sylvan Lake. Escape the urban bustle at Mount Rushmore National Memorial and Iron Mountain Road. You'll find plenty of places to visit near Custer: Badlands Wall (in Badlands National Park) and Keystone (Presidential Trail & Black Hills Helicopters).
