Maine's biggest and perhaps most vibrant city, Portland was established as a fishing village in 1633 and grew to become New England's largest port.You'll enjoy a bit of beach vacationing at Hampton Beach State Park and Short Sands Beach. Get some historical perspective at Strawbery Banke Museum and Spring Point Ledge Lighthouse. Venture out of the city with trips to Footbridge Beach (in Ogunquit), USS Albacore Museum (in Portsmouth) and Kennebunk Beach (in Kennebunkport).
