With coastline on the west, south, and east, Newport is a maritime city with a rich history.
Appreciate the collections at Mystic Seaport Museum and The Breakers. Fort Adams State Park and Ocean Drive Historic District will appeal to history buffs. Change things up with a short trip to Stonington Village Farmers' Market in Stonington (about 1h 05 min away). It doesn't end there: steep yourself in history at The Elms and appreciate the extensive heritage of Cliff Walk.

Museum-lovers will get to explore Mount Washington Observatory Weather Discovery Center and Sugar Hill Historical Museum. Deepen your sense of the past at sights like Flume Gorge and Russell-Colbath Homestead. Step out of North Conway to go to Gorham and see Mount Washington Auto Road, which is approximately 46 minutes away. There's lots more to do: take in the dramatic natural features at Cathedral Ledge, take in the dramatic scenery at Diana's Baths, and take a memorable drive along Kancamagus Highway.

Traveling by car from Newport to North Conway takes 4.5 hours. Alternatively, you can do a combination of bus, flight, and car; or take a bus. In August, daytime highs in North Conway are 75°F, while nighttime lows are 59°F. Finish up your sightseeing early on the 16th (Fri) so you can go by car to Bar Harbor.
