A playground for America’s wealthy families, Lake George was nicknamed "Queen of the American Lakes." While these families often stayed in private country houses, a tourism industry built up around them in the early 20th century facilitated by two YMCAs.
Kick off your visit on the 16th (Sat): go for a walk through Ulysses S. Grant Cottage National Historic Landmark, head outdoors with Equinox Balloons, and then get outside with Bolton Boat Tours and Water Sports on Lake George. Keep things going the next day: trek along Cat and Thomas Mountains, engage your brain at Star Trek Original Series Set Tour, and then walk around Rogers Memorial Park.

Old Forge is a hamlet (and census-designated place) on New York State Route 28 in the town of Webb in Herkimer County, New York. On the 18th (Mon), contemplate the long history of Town of Webb Historic Association, take in the awesome beauty at Bald Mountain, and then get in on the family fun at Enchanted Forest Water Safari.
