A big city with a small-town feel, Portland is home to the country's biggest rose test garden, perched on a hill overlooking downtown.
Take a break from the city and head to Oaks Bottom Wildlife Refuge and Tualatin River National Wildlife Refuge. Do some cultural sightseeing at Pittock Mansion and Evergreen Aviation & Space Museum. Get out of town with these interesting Portland side-trips: St. Mary's Catholic Church (in Mount Angel), Fernhill Wetlands Park (in Forest Grove) and Oregon Garden (in Silverton). There's still lots to do: take a peaceful walk through Table Rock Wilderness, appreciate the extensive heritage of Eastbank Esplanade, take in nature's colorful creations at Lan Su Chinese Garden, and take a stroll through Ladd's Addition.

Sacramento to Portland is an approximately 4.5-hour flight. You can also do a combination of train, subway, and flight; or drive. When traveling from Sacramento in June, plan for slightly colder days in Portland, with highs around 77°F, while nights are about the same with lows around 56°F. Finish your sightseeing early on the 15th (Sat) to allow enough time to travel to Timberline Lodge.

Astoria, named for famed fur trader John Jacob Astor, resides near the mouth of the Columbia River.
Visiting Haystack Rock and Ecola State Park will get you outdoors. Visit Cannon Beach and Manzanita Beach for some beach relaxation. Take a break from Astoria with a short trip to Bronze Coast Gallery in Cannon Beach, about 40 minutes away. Spend the 18th (Tue) exploring nature at Fort Clatsop National Memorial. Friday Harbor, San Juan Island

The tiny town of Friday Harbor is the largest village on the San Juan Islands, and it fits within just 2.6 km (1 sq mi) of space.
On the 20th (Thu), admire the majestic nature at Lime Kiln Point State Park and then see majestic marine mammals with a dolphin and whale watching tour. Get ready for a full day of sightseeing on the next day: kick back and relax at San Juan Co Park.

You can do a combination of bus, train, and flight from Astoria to Friday Harbor in 7.5 hours. Alternatively, you can do a combination of bus and flight; or do a combination of bus, train, and ferry. In June, plan for daily highs up to 69°F, and evening lows to 48°F. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 21st (Fri) early enough to fly to Seattle.

Nicknamed the "Emerald City" because of its abundant evergreen trees, Seattle is the cultural and business center of the Pacific Northwest, as well as a popular holiday destination.
Do some cultural sightseeing at Pike Place Market and Chihuly Garden and Glass. Escape the urban bustle at Murhut Falls and Hood Canal. Change things up with a short trip to Seahurst Beach Park in Burien (about 36 minutes away).
