Escape the urban bustle at Murhut Falls and Woodland Park Zoo. Kids will enjoy Pike Place Market and Space Needle. Venture out of the city with trips to Seahurst Beach Park (in Burien) and Hood Canal (in Olympic National Park). And it doesn't end there: explore the world behind art at Chihuly Garden and Glass, see the interesting displays at The Museum of Flight, meet the residents at Seattle Aquarium, and take in the waterfront at Hiram M. Traveling from Seattle in July, things will get a bit cooler in Cannon Beach: highs are around 69°F and lows about 55°F. Start off your visit on the 5th (Fri): explore the activities along Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area and then trek along Historic Columbia River Highway State Trail. You can drive from Cannon Beach to Timberline Lodge in 3 hours. Expect a bit warmer weather when traveling from Cannon Beach in July: highs in Timberline Lodge hover around 79°F, while lows dip to 58°F. Cap off your sightseeing on the 6th (Sat) early enough to travel to Portland.

A big city with a small-town feel, Portland is home to the country's biggest rose test garden, perched on a hill overlooking downtown.
Get some historical perspective at Pittock Mansion and Fort Vancouver National Historic Site. Kids will enjoy Eastbank Esplanade and Tualatin River National Wildlife Refuge. Change things up with a short trip to St. Mary's Catholic Church in Mount Angel (about 58 minutes away).
