Here are some ideas for day two: get outside with Reflection Lakes, then examine the collection at Longmire Museum, then hike along Trail of the Shadows, and finally trek along Naches Peak Loop Trail.

Astoria, named for famed fur trader John Jacob Astor, resides near the mouth of the Columbia River.
Step out of the city life by going to Astoria Oregon Riverwalk and Twilight Eagle Sanctuary. Eschew the tourist crowds and head to Seaside Beach and Battery Russell. Take a break from Astoria with a short trip to Arcadia Beach State Recreation Area in Seaside, about 30 minutes away. There's much more to do: visit a coastal fixture at Lightship Columbia, appreciate the history behind Maritime Memorial, take in nature's colorful creations at Garden of Surging Waves, and see the interesting displays at Oregon Film Museum.

A town that survives on the sea, Newport's population of just over 10,000 supports a healthy commercial fishing industry.
Explore hidden gems such as Seal Rock State Wayside and Agate Beach State Recreation Site. Take a break from the city and head to Alsea Bay Bridge Interpretive Center and Yachats State Park. Take a break from Newport with a short trip to Smelt Sands State Park in Yachats, about 38 minutes away. There's much more to do: stroll around Don & Ann Davis Park, examine the collection at The Wax Works, appreciate the history behind Fishermen's Memorial Sanctuary, and admire the majestic nature at Lost Creek State Park.

You can drive from Astoria to Newport in 3.5 hours. Another option is to take a bus. When traveling from Astoria in August, plan for little chillier days and about the same nights in Newport: temperatures range from 64°F by day to 51°F at night. Finish your sightseeing early on the 1st (Tue) to allow enough time to drive to Bend.
