For sixty years until 2003, most of the Isla de Vieques was closed off to the public, with the US Navy using the island's beaches and surrounding waters for drills and testing of new military machinery, such as bombs.
Your cultural itinerary includes sights like Puerto Ferro Lighthouse and Siddhia Hutchinson Fine Art Gallery. You'll get in some beach time at La Chiva and Caracas Beach. With much of Culebra a nature refuge, the tropical island has been protected from overdevelopment, chain hotels, and the cruise set.
Kick off your visit on the 17th (Wed): see the interesting displays at Museo Historico de Culebra, then kick back and relax at Zoni Beach, and then stroll through Tamarindo Beach. Here are some ideas for day two: enjoy the sand and surf at Flamenco Beach and then kick back and relax at Playa Punta Soldado Beach.

Traveling by combination of car and flight from Isla de Vieques to Culebra takes 2.5 hours. Alternatively, you can ride a ferry. April in Culebra sees daily highs of 85°F and lows of 76°F at night. Finish your sightseeing early on the 18th (Thu) so you can travel to Rincon.

A seaside playground in the Caribbean, Rincon was a small agricultural and fishing town until it hosted the 1968 World Surfing Championship.

Ponce is both a city and a municipality in the southern part of Puerto Rico. You'll discover tucked-away gems like Scuba & Snorkeling and Los Morrillos Light. Get a sense of the local culture at Museo de Arte de Ponce and Centro Cultural Carmen Sola de Pereira de Ponce. Venture out of the city with trips to Gilligan's Island (in Playa de Guanica) and Playa Sucia (in Cabo Rojo).
