Founded by the Spanish in 1521, San Juan is the oldest city under U.S. jurisdiction and one of the oldest in the Americas.

Popular historic sites such as Santa Maria Magdalena de Pazzis Cemetery and Catedral Basilica Menor de San Juan Bautista are in your itinerary. Dusseldorf, Germany to San Juan is an approximately 15-hour combination of train and flight. You can also fly. The time zone changes from Central European Standard Time to Atlantic Standard Time, which is usually a -5 hour difference. Traveling from Dusseldorf in May, things will get much hotter in San Juan: highs are around 36°C and lows about 28°C. Finish up your sightseeing early on the 22nd (Mon) so you can go by car to Rincon.

A seaside playground in the Caribbean, Rincon was a small agricultural and fishing town until it hosted the 1968 World Surfing Championship.

On the 23rd (Tue), stroll through Steps Beach, enjoy the sea views from Faro de Punta Higuera, and then discover the deep blue sea with a scuba or snorkeling tour. Get ready for a full day of sightseeing on the next day: enjoy the sand and surf at Sandy Beach, tour the pleasant surroundings at Domes Beach, and then enjoy the sand and surf at Playa Crashboat.

You can drive from San Juan to Rincon in 2 hours. Alternatively, you can fly; or do a combination of shuttle and car. Expect a daytime high around 36°C in May, and nighttime lows around 31°C. Finish your sightseeing early on the 24th (Wed) to allow enough time to drive to Ponce.

Ponce is both a city and a municipality in the southern part of Puerto Rico. Kick off your visit on the 25th (Thu): pause for some photo ops at Museo Castillo Serralles, then take an in-depth tour of Museo de Arte de Ponce, and then contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Cathedral of our Lady of Guadaloupe.

Traveling by car from Rincon to Ponce takes 1.5 hours. Alternatively, you can do a combination of taxi, flight, and shuttle. Traveling from Rincon in May, things will get little chillier in Ponce: highs are around 33°C and lows about 27°C. Cap off your sightseeing on the 25th (Thu) early enough to travel to Isla de Vieques.

For sixty years until 2003, most of the Isla de Vieques was closed off to the public, with the US Navy using the island's beaches and surrounding waters for drills and testing of new military machinery, such as bombs.

You'll discover tucked-away gems like Playa Caracas and Stand-Up Paddleboarding. You'll get in some beach time at Playa La Chiva and Playa Pata Prieta. And it doesn't end there: kick back and relax at Black Sand Beach, trot along with a tour on horseback, relax and rejuvenate at Beatriz Beauty Boutique, and tour the pleasant surroundings at Balneario Sun Bay.

Traveling by combination of car and ferry from Ponce to Isla de Vieques takes 3.5 hours. Alternatively, you can do a combination of car, bus, taxi, and ferry; or do a combination of shuttle and flight. In May, daytime highs in Isla de Vieques are 34°C, while nighttime lows are 28°C. Finish up your sightseeing early on the 29th (Mon) so you can catch the flight to Culebra.

With much of Culebra a nature refuge, the tropical island has been protected from overdevelopment, chain hotels, and the cruise set.

Relax by the water at Flamenco Beach and Playa Zoni. Explore hidden gems such as Boat Tours & Water Sports and Playa Tamarindo. Next up on the itinerary: head off the coast to Culebrita and enjoy the sea views from Culebrita Lighthouse.

Traveling by flight from Isla de Vieques to Culebra takes 3.5 hours. Alternatively, you can ride a ferry. In May in Culebra, expect temperatures between 36°C during the day and 29°C at night. Finish up your sightseeing early on the 1st (Thu) so you can catch the flight to El Yunque National Forest.

Kick off your visit on the 2nd (Fri): take a peaceful walk through El Yunque National Forest.

Fly from Culebra to El Yunque National Forest in 2 hours. Alternatively, you can do a combination of ferry and car. June in El Yunque National Forest sees daily highs of 37°C and lows of 30°C at night. Finish up your sightseeing early on the 3rd (Sat) so you can travel back home.
