San Francisco is a top holiday destination featuring scenic beauty and great ethnic and cultural diversity.
Shop till you drop at Ferry Building Marketplace and Blue Line Arts. Eschew the tourist crowds and head to Lands End and West Cliff Drive. Venture out of the city with trips to Art Works Downtown (in San Rafael), Mill Valley (Dipsea Trail & Muir Woods National Monument) and Sacramento (California State Railroad Museum & American River Bicycle Trail). There's still lots to do: immerse yourself in nature at Marin Headlands, step off the mainland to explore Alcatraz Island, stroll through Natural Bridges State Beach, and hunt for treasures at Ferry Plaza Farmers Market.

Palm Springs to San Francisco is an approximately 3-hour flight. You can also drive; or take a bus. When traveling from Palm Springs in December, plan for slightly colder days and about the same nights in San Francisco: temperatures range from 59°F by day to 45°F at night. You will have some time to spend on the 9th (Wed) before leaving for San Diego.

Divided into neighborhoods with distinct characters and cultural heritages, San Diego sits just north of the Mexican border and offers visitors a blend of tourist attractions, including a lively nightlife, diverse cuisine, and a thriving musical scene.
Get some historical perspective at Old Town San Diego State Historic Park and Mormon Battalion Historic Site. Head to Seaport Village and Liberty Public Marketfor some retail therapy. Step out of San Diego with an excursion to Lions, Tigers & Bears in Alpine--about 48 minutes away. The adventure continues: immerse yourself in nature at Torrey Pines State Natural Reserve, stroll through Pacific Beach, take in the views from Coronado Bridge, and take in the dramatic natural features at Point Loma.

Plan for somewhat warmer temperatures traveling from San Francisco in December, with highs in San Diego at 68°F and lows at 51°F. Cap off your sightseeing on the 15th (Tue) early enough to go by car back home.
