Venture out of the city with trips to Spearfish (D.C. Booth Historic National Fish Hatchery & Spearfish Canyon Scenic Byway), Mount Moriah Cemetery (in Deadwood) and Custer (Sylvan Lake, Needles Eye Tunnel, &more). Although Badlands National Park's name might not be the most inviting, its landscape of pinnacles, eroded buttes, spires, and an expansive, pristine mixed-grass prairie remain enticing.
When in Badlands National Park, make a side trip to see Badlands National Park in Interior, approximately Interior away. There's lots more to do: take a memorable drive along Loop Road, hike along Notch Trail, explore the striking landscape at Homestead Overlook, and explore the striking landscape of Panorama Point Overlook.
