Generally considered to be the oldest town established by European Americans in the Black Hills, Custer began as a mining town.
Museum-lovers will get to explore The Museum @ Black Hills Institute and Custer County 1881 Courthouse. You'll discover tucked-away gems like Horseback Riding Tours and Native American Educational and Cultural Center. Get out of town with these interesting Custer side-trips: Windcross Conservancy (in Buffalo Gap), Hot Springs (Angostura Recreation Area & The Black Hills Wild Horse Sanctuary) and Warrior's Work & Ben West Gallery (in Hill City). Little Rock to Custer is an approximately 7-hour combination of flight and taxi. You can also drive; or take a bus. You'll gain 1 hour traveling from Little Rock to Custer due to the time zone difference. Traveling from Little Rock in July, things will get a bit cooler in Custer: highs are around 80°F and lows about 53°F. Finish your sightseeing early on the 19th (Fri) to allow enough time to drive to Deadwood.

Kick off your visit on the 23rd (Tue): look for all kinds of wild species at Roberts Prairie Dog Town, then explore the galleries of Prairie Homestead, and then stroll through Door Trail.
