Generally considered to be the oldest town established by European Americans in the Black Hills, Custer began as a mining town.
Appreciate the collections at Mammoth Site of Hot Springs and Museum of the Fur Trade. Bring the kids along to Custer State Park and Needles Eye Tunnel. Take a break from Custer with a short trip to Elk Mountain Nature Trail in Wind Cave National Park, about 36 minutes away.
