Step out of Kalispell with an excursion to Montana Vortex and House of Mystery in Columbia Falls--about 30 minutes away. Billings is the largest city in the state of Montana, and is the principal city of the Billings Metropolitan Area with a population of 166,855.Billings is located in the south-eastern portion of the state and is the seat of Yellowstone County, which had a 2015 population of 157,048. Take a break from Billings with a short trip to Pompeys Pillar National Monument in Pompeys Pillar, about 32 minutes away. There's still lots to do: trot along with a tour on horseback, take in nature's colorful creations at DanWalt Gardens, walk around Riverfront Park, and stop by Scheels.
